The motion to roll the round ligament off the lateral crus of external oblique is demonstrated to the resident. The maneuver is done with a moist sponge on the finger.

The ilioinguinal nerve emerged through an aperture in the external oblique superior to where the superficial ring was opened. The tip of the scissors was passed between fascia and nerve to separate the two.

The fascial bridge was cut, freeing the nerve. The nerve lay superior to the round ligament and did not require further mobilization.
