After initial dissection of the kidney, the hilar vessels are isolated, clips are applied proximally and distally and the vessels are divided on the hilar side of the adrenal and gonadal veins. Because of the small caliber of the vessels, the surgeon decided to clip the artery and vein together in this case.

The remaining attachments of the kidney are dissected circumferentially, leaving the adrenal in situ.
