A fascial opening is created at the base of the umbilicus more than adequate to accommodate the neoappendix. The neoappendix is then brought up through the fascial opening and the cecum anchored to the undersurface of the abdominal wall with interrupted silk sutures. The neoappendix is then transected in an oblique fashion such that the shortest portion of the neoappendix matches the apex of the umbilical skin incision.
