The third phase of the operation consisted of mobilizing the distal pancreas. The tail of the pancreas was retracted medially. Blunt and shart dissection were used to divide the retroperitoneal attachments while the tail of the pancreas is delivered out of the pancreatic bed. The suprarenal space, adrenal gland, and vasculature are posterior to the tail of the pancreas.
