The anterior branch of the cystic artery is demonstrated, defining the “critical view” necessary to proceed with safe cholecystectomy. Note that the infundibulum is retracted gently to the right and not cephalad. The latter direction aligns the cystic duct with the common duct and could result in injury to the latter when the cystic duct is divided (see laparoscopic cholecystectomy).
