A 16-year-old girl presented with a large easily-reducible hernia in the left groin. The hernia had been present and enlarging since repair of a right inguinal hernia five years before. On opening the inguinal canal, there was no direct or indirect hernia present. On opening the femoral sheath (see femoral hernia anatomy.) below the inguinal ligament, a large femoral hernia sac was identified and dissected free.
The sac was opened. There were no contents, and no sliding component of bladder. The neck of the sac was suture ligated under direct vision using 2-0 silk.
