A 63-year-old man presented with a four-month history of posterior right thigh pain and enlarging mass. He had undergone a left nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma 18 years previously. Incisional biopsy of the mass proved to be renal cell carcinoma. There was no other evidence of metastasis. Renal cell carcinoma typically goes to bone, brain and lung, rarely to muscle. The late presentation is also unusual.
