A 41-year-old man noticed a growing left neck mass (see differential diagnosis of neck masses). Incisional biopsy diagnosis was malignant fibrous histiocytoma (see sarcoma of the knee discussion). The patient underwent a 25-treatment course of pre-operative radiotherapy.

CT and MRI cross sections at the level of the thyroid cartilage show the extent of the lesion and impingement on the neural foramen. The patient developed progressive neurologic dysfunction during the course of radiotherapy.
