Retraction sutures were placed in the leading edge of the subscapularis tendon to assist with mobilization. Anterior humeral head osteophytes are exposed.

The axillary nerve was identified passing medial and inferior to the subscapularis tendon. The nerve passes beneath the inferior capsule at the subscapularis musculotendinous junction.

The anterior side of the shoulder capsule was released from the humerus using the needle electrocautery to allow external rotation and dislocation for exposure.
