The location of the tumor in the left frontal lobe raised several concerns. The central sulcus (of Rolando) separates the precentral gyrus (motor strip) from the somatosensory cortex of the postcentral gyrus. Brodman's area 44, Broca's speech area, lies anterior to the lower end of the motor strip above the lateral sulcus (Sylvian fissure). Most individuals, whether right or left handed, are left-brain dominant for Broca's area. The patient exhibited no speech impairment preoperatively.
