The island flap of dorsal skin over the first phalanx of the index finger was marked, with a proximal extension for exposure of the first and second dorsal metacarpal arteries on which the flap is based.
The major blood supply to the thumb, the princeps pollicis artery arises from the deep branch of the radial artery, sometimes in common with the radial digital artery of the index finger as shown here.
