Neck Melanoma - Wide Excision and Sentinel Node: 1

A 68-year-old man had excision of a melanoma (see melanoma) over the upper end of the left sternocleidomastoid. The Breslow depth was 2.7 mm. Because of the intermediate thickness of the lesion, the patient was referred for wide excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Lymphoscintigraphy done the night before surgery did not reveal an index node, probably due to masking.
