The transversalis fascia, highlighted in blue, extends around the cord structures, forming the deep inguinal ring and internal spermatic fascia. A second extension around the femoral vessels forms the femoral sheath. The femoral canal, occupied by lymphatics from the leg, is the medial most space in the femoral sheath, and is the path taken by a femoral hernia (see femoral hernia).

The band of transversalis fascia from anterior superior iliac spine to pubis is thickened in most individuals and is called the iliopubic tract.
