After identifying and ligating the superficial epigastric vessels in the subcutaneous tissue, the external oblique and ilioinguinal nerve, exiting near the superficial ring, were exposed.

The superficial inguinal ring is made up of medial and lateral crura of the external oblique aponeurosis, which attach to the pubic tubercle. Superficial intracrural fibers bridge the split.
