The facial branch of the common facial vein crosses the stylohyoid muscle and posterior belly of the digastric, passes over the body of the gland and joins the facial artery beneath the marginal mandibular nerve at the border of the mandible.
The broad platysma muscle lying at the level of the superficial cervical fascia covers the contents of the submandibular triangle as well as the marginal nerve and facial vessels.
