The mucosa was circumferentially separated from the muscularis around the defect. The distal margin of mucosa was right at the dentate line.

The muscular wall of the proximal side of the defect was sutured to the top of the mobilized sphincters at the distal side of the defect using absorbable 2-0 sutures.
