The pectoralis minor and subclavius muscle above it are enclosed in the clavipectoral fascia which continues lateral to the pec. minor to cover the lateral side of the axillary fat pad. The thoracoacromial vessels emerge through the clavipectoral fascia between the subclavius and pec minor and the cephalic vein dives down to join the axillary vein.

The medial and lateral pectoral nerves to the pectoralis muscles arise above the axillary vein. The former penetrates the pec minor to reach the lower part of the pec major and the latter emerges medial to the pec minor to supply the upper part of the major. This is contrary to their names which derive from their brachial plexus cord of origin. The pectoral branch of the thoracoacromial artery is the major vascular pedicle for the pectoralis major and is the supply for the pectoralis free flap. It is supplemented by internal mammary and lateral thoracic branches.
