The splenorenal ligament was next exposed lateral to the spleen and incised. The splenorenal ligament is a reflection of parietal peritoneum between the renal surface of the spleen and Gerota's fascia (see splenic anatomy and renal anatomy).
The spleen was mobilized bluntly off Gerota's fascia. The tail of the pancreas was found to be firmly tethered posteriorly. The tail of the pancreas is normally easily elevated by this maneuver.
