Because of the possibility that this lesion was a glucagonoma, and the high incidence of malignancy of such tumors, the patient was taken to the operating room for laparoscopic, spleen-sparing, resection of the tail of the pancreas (see laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic mucinous cystic neoplasm.)
