The kidney was wrapped in a cold moist pad and oriented for anastomosis. Upper pole is to the right (patient's head), the ureter is on the upper surface of the kidney. A side-biting vascular clamp was placed on the external iliac vein in preparation for the anastomosis.

The venous anastomosis was performed with continuous 5-0 polypropylene. The vascular clamp was removed and a bulldog clamp was placed on the renal vein.
