Prolapsing Pedunculated Rectal Lipoma: 1

A 52-year-old man presented with a prolapsed rectal mass.
On initial examination, the mass appeared to be a prolapsed grade IV internal hemorrhoid. The patient reported one prior similar episode which resolved when the mass spontaneously reduced. The patient was taken to the operating room for excision.

Under anesthesia, the mass was found to be free circumferentially at the level of the anal canal.

Intraoperative flexible sigmoidoscopy was performed, and the mass was found to be attached to the mid-rectal wall by a long stalk.
