Open Biopsy for Suspected Liposarcoma: 4

CT scan showed an intramuscular mass consistent with fat density (see intramuscular lipoma.) The mass originated near the elbow joint synovium and extended into the wrist extensors and brachioradialis in a dumbbell fashion. Internal septation raised the concern that this could be a liposarcoma. Pre-operative workup was negative for other pathology.

It was felt that core biopsy would not be an adequate sampling to rule out sarcoma, so the patient was taken to the operating room for open biopsy.
