A 62-year-old symptomatic patient had successful coiling of a right middle cerebral aneurysm (see cerebrovascular disease).

Attempts to coil a left fusiform supraclinoid internal carotid aneurysm with a stent-supported coil were unsuccessful when the coils got tangled with the stent.

Subsequent coiling of the internal carotid resulted in hypoperfusion strokes due to inadequate anterior communicating and other collateral circulation (see brain circulation). Her symptoms included recurrent aphasia, word-finding difficulty and right upper extremity weakness.
