The Hasson cannula was removed and finger dissection was used to separate the omentum from the abdominal wall around the umbilical opening. A 1.5 cm epigastric hernia was palpated in the course of finger dissection. The cannula was reinserted into the new pocket and insufflation restarted.

The left upper quadrant was seen to be free of adhesions and the lateral segment of the left lobe of the liver was visualized.
