A finger was placed in the umbilical opening and the tip was placed in the epigastric hernia. Insufflation was reestablished. A small stab incision was made in the skin over the defect.

A needle suture carrier was passed through the stab wound to place a 2-0 braided absorbable figure eight closure around the defect. The cannulas were removed and the umbilical site was closed under direct vision. The patient reported relief of her deep abdominal pain two weeks after the procedure.
