The coccyx was divided. Failure to excise the coccyx with the tumor results in a high recurrence. There was a small cephalad extension of tumor beneath the coccyx.

The middle sacral artery, the primary feeding vessel to the tumor, was isolated and divided. The small extension of the tumor above the sacrococcygeal junction was mobilized and taken with the specimen.
